Heads must roll at NACOB over cocaine scandal – Aning

Dr-kwesi-AningSecurity Analyst, Dr. Kwesi Aning, has said heads must roll at the Narcotics Control Board (NACOB) over the latest cocaine scandal to establish the credibility of the institution.

Dr Aning has also urged NACOB to immediately clarify whether it truly collaborated with the UK officials in the arrest of Nayele Ametefe with 12kg of cocaine in her suitcase.

“Heads should not only roll, we need to let heads roll but even more importantly to ensure that we can bring the credibility of the institution back on track,” Dr Aning told Starr News Friday.

In a statement to the media, NACOB stated that Ms. Ametefe was arrested on the 10th of November, 2014, through its collaborative effort with its British partners.

NACOB also added that Ametefeh travelled on an Austrian passport and not with a Ghanaian diplomatic passport.

But the British High Commission in Ghana has issued a statement discounting that Ametefeh was apprehended due to the collaborative efforts of the two countries.

The statement categorically stated that “UK authorities had no prior knowledge of the intentions of Ms Nayele Ametefeh before flying from Accra to London on 9/10 November.”

Speaking on the Starr Midday News, Friday, Aning said UK’s statement discredits NACOB and damages the reputation of Ghana.

“NACOB should issue an explanatory statement as quickly as possible because if an institution with the reputation of NACOB, has been caught in the fabrication of facts, then I think Ghana’s reputation has been considerably damaged than the actual transportation of drugs,” Dr. Aning said.

He added “Its [NACOB] credibility has been questioned and it’s important for NACOB itself as an institution and certainly for government as well to ensure that we get an explanation as quickly as possible.

“There are several explanations that NACOB must come up with and they must be quick and they must be very convincing this time round…It’s not only disturbing but terribly disappointing”.
