Government officials defying directive on GV plates for Government vehicles

regMin-carrawgist.com has realized several government officials disregard directives from the President with impunity.

Your ultimate news website therefore decided to monitor how some government officials treat various directives from “above”, starting with the directive to use “GV” number plates on government vehicles.

Government earlier this year issued a directive requiring all Government vehicles to be re-registered under “GV” plates.

Transport Minister, Dziva Aku Attivor explained that “this is to ensure a judicious application of Government expenditure specifically on the utilization of government vehicles in Ghana as part of Government desire to prudently manage public resources”

She said the Re-registration exercise then was one of a number of regulatory measures government had decided to implement to promote the efficient and economic use of Government vehicles.

Mrs. Attivor emphasized government’s commitment to the national exercise and added that the exercise was being handled by the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA).

The exercise included issuance of a new number plate with green background, the number of the vehicle in white letters embossed on the plate which include a “GV” prefix identifying that the vehicle belongs to Government, the year of registration of the vehicle as suffix, a code identifying the Ministry, Department and Agency to which the vehicle belongs and a code identifying regional coordinating councils, metropolitan, municipal and district Assemblies to which the vehicle belongs.
rawgist.com investigations however reveal that some government functionaries are reverting from the GV plates.

rawgist.com for instance spotted the Ashanti regional Minister, Hon. Samuel Sarpong and his entourage cruising in an official vehicle which had been reverted from the GV plate to the number BA 2501-14.

The Honorable regional Minister had come to Manhyia together with his deputy; Joseph Yammin, the Kumasi Mayor, Ashanti regional Police 2IC as well as the 4BN Commander to greet Asantehene Otumfour Osei Tutu II during the Akwasidae celebration last Sunday. The minister had infact introduced his deputy to Otumfour at that particular event.

rawgist.com is of the view that the new number plate on the black Toyota land cruiser vehicle in question can only be fake since it has a GV registration at the DVLA.

The spotlight is on and rawgist.com will continue to update readers on this and other matters as our eagle eyes detect.
