Gonja youth warn of looming crisis

chiefThe concerned youth of Gonja traditional area are calling on Yagbonwura Tuntumba Sulemani Jakpa Bore-Essa I to withdraw his unconstitutional acts of duplicating chiefs in various parts of the Gonja traditional area.

They want Gonjas living all over the world to rise up against “the imminent crisis being fomented by the chief”.

Speaking with rawgist.com, Chairman of the group; Alex Ibrahim Abdulai said, “the urgency of the situation on our hands appears to be lost on our chiefs and elders. Nothing could be more urgent than working around the clock to defuse the situation in Bole traditional area. Bole traditional area is sitting on a powder keg. The slightest spark will set the whole area ablaze.”

He told rawgist.com’s Michael Amoateng that, ” there is a similar impasse existing in the Sonyo traditional area. If tempers of the rival chiefs boil over, especially after the demise of the Yagbonwura, the gonja state is going to be paralyzed in confusion. The Yagbonwura has brought shame on all Gonjas and here is the man who has ignored every piece of advice from his elders and counselors. This man cannot be a chief on Gonja land” Alex explained.

rawgist.com checks have it that, numerous efforts have been made to resolve the situation but to no avail.

Awudu Nbonwura of Damongo traditional area added that, “as peace-loving people it has never crossed our minds to resort to violence, however we would like to assure the Yagbonwura that,we would pursue this matter with every legitimate means at our disposal to make him change his position on the issues raised in our petition.” “It is strange that Buipewura Abdulai Mahama and his ilk cannot see the looming catastrophe that will result from the Yagbonwura’s actions. We hope that they are not playing the ostrich. In fact, the handwriting is already on the wall. The recent shooting incident between kafaba and kalampor is a precursor and foretaste of what will happen in the Gonja kingdom if the Yagbonwura does not reverse his unconstitutional acts before he dies”,  Awudu Nbonwura explained.
