Ghana Water to suffer for not increasing tariffs

ghanawater-companyThe Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) has expressed shock at the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) for not allowing them to charge the 4.54 percent increment announced by the PURC.

The Regulatory body in announcing the increment indicated that GWCL’s increment will not be passed on to the consumer due to poor service delivery. PURC thus charged the water company to strive to resolve such challenges before it is allowed to increase its tariffs. But speaking to Citi News, Public Relations Manager for GWCL, Michael Agyemang, described the stance of the regulatory body as unfair in the face of recent increases in cost of production for the company.

“We are very surprise because we were expecting the increment. We know the automatic adjustment formula is driven by variables like inflationary rate, the cedi exchange rate, chemical cost, electricity cost and the rest and all these have variables have changed, they have gone up. Especially now that they have increased the electricity cost its means they should be some increase for Ghana Water Company.”

The chief Public Relations manager for the Ghana Water company Limited lamented the fact that 33 percent of the cost of production by the GWCL is from Electricity which justifies why they should be allowed to charged the increment.

He told Citi Business News that the company was going to suffer until they are allowed to charge the increase or they will have to wait until the next increase something that the company is not happy at all about and will increase the loses of the company.
