Ghana Set to Launch 24-Hour Economy and Export Drive on July 2

In a decisive move toward economic transformation and national self-reliance, the Government of Ghana is set to officially launch its flagship initiative, the 24-Hour Economy and Accelerated Export Development Programme 24-Hour Economy on July 2, 2025.

The comprehensive program, spearheaded by the 24-Hour Economy Committee under the chairmanship of Dr. Goosie Tannoh, has been submitted to the Rt. Hon. Speaker of Parliament Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin and key government stakeholders for implementation. The 24-Hour Economy initiative is anchored on three strategic pillars: production transformation, supply chain and market efficiency, and human capital development.

According to Dr. Tannoh, the programme aims to reshape Ghana’s industrial ecosystem, enhance competitiveness, and prepare the national workforce for the demands of a modern, digital economy.

One of the key sub-programmes is Connect24, which focuses on revitalizing manufacturing and optimizing supply chains. “Connect24 will streamline production processes and logistics, strengthening our industrial base and positioning Ghana for export-led growth,” Dr. Tannoh noted.

He also highlighted Aspire24, a transformative agenda focused on reshaping national attitudes toward productivity and work culture. “Without a shift in mindset, we cannot achieve the national reset we envision,” he stated. Aspire24 will also integrate digital technology into the TVET system, aiming to develop a digitally fluent workforce capable of competing on the African and global stage.

Another key component of the programme is Shogana, a cultural heritage initiative that celebrates Ghana’s rich identity through food, dance, history, and art. The programme seeks to position culture as both a tool for diaspora engagement and a driver of tourism and exports.

Additionally, the Go Ghana agenda was unveiled as a nationwide citizens’ mobilization programme. Rooted in Ghana’s historic tradition of community volunteerism—from the independence era through Operation Feed Yourself and the PNDC mobilizations—Go Ghana encourages citizens to contribute to national development through self-help and local reconstruction initiatives. It also aims to combat youth emigration by fostering pride, purpose, and opportunity at home.

As part of the broader 24H+ framework, the government reaffirmed its commitment to the “Made in Ghana” policy. Dr. Tannoh criticized the prevailing practice of favoring foreign goods in procurement, even when local alternatives are only slightly more expensive. “We must use the power of public procurement to support local industries—from school uniforms to parliamentary supplies—to build economic resilience,” he urged.
In closing, Dr. Tannoh emphasized that the 24H+ initiative represents a shared national vision:
“This is not just the president’s ambition—it is a collective call to reset our country, empower our people, and build Ghana from within.”
