Ghana Seeks Re-election to ITU Council and RRB Membership
The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Mr. Samuel Nartey George, has
called on Member States to support Ghana’s re-election to the ITU Council during the World Telecommunication Development Conference (WTDC) 2025.
Addressing delegates in Baku, Azerbaijan, on Wednesday, the Minister emphasized Ghana’s longstanding partnership with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), which has been in place since the country joined in 1957.
He highlighted Ghana’s active role on the ITU Council since 2002, contributing to advancements in Radiocommunications, Standardization, and Development through various study groups and regional initiatives.
Mr. George also endorsed the re-election of Ing. Edmund Yirenkyi Fianko, Director-General of the National Communications Authority (NCA), to the Radio Regulations Board (RRB) for Region D for the 2027–2030 term.
He noted that Ing. Fianko’s expertise in spectrum management and his efforts in resolving harmful interference have significantly strengthened the RRB since his appointment in 2023 adding that maintaining such expertise is essential for the continued effectiveness of the Board.
In his remarks, Ing. Fianko expressed gratitude for the support he has received from the Government of Ghana and fellow Member States during his first term.
He reaffirmed his commitment to upholding the integrity of the Radio Regulations and ensuring fairness in all Board decisions, appealing for continued backing to promote stability and experience on the RRB.
