Ghana Association of Writers goes to congress in May

The Ghana Association of Writers (GAW) is set for her congress.

According to the Constitution of GAW, Congress is the highest decision making body of the Association.

Vice president of GAW; Mr. Francis Gbormittah who spoke to Bernard Buachi of www.rawgist.com revealed that this year’s congress is scheduled for 11th May, 2019. He explained that GAW Congress is held once every three years.

“Like most Congresses, issues of congress such as constitutional review, Secretarial reports as well as financial reports are presented on one hand and the election of new Executives also on the other hand” he said and stressed that congress is a very important constitutional requirement.

Mr. Gbormittah also explained that congress is usually chaired by the National Chairman of the Association but hinted that the President Nana Kwasi Gyan Apenteng has ceded his power to Prof. Kofi Agyekum to chair the congress.

Various dignitaries and sister associations from all over the world are expected to grace this year’s congress.

GAW was established in 1957 to serve primarily as the mouthpiece of Writers in Ghana and also promote reading and writing. The Association has a great number of members including some renowned writers such as Ama Ata Aidoo, Efua Sutherland, Prof. Kofi Awoonor, Joe Degraft, Atukwei Okai amongst many others.

Mr. Gbormittah encouraged all lovers of books and literature to join the Association and help push the frontiers of learning.
