GEIG safeguards education of 13 brilliant but needy girls

edu 3The Girls Education Initiative of Ghana (GEIG) a non-profit organization is providing academic and financial support thirteen (13) girls in the Ashanti and the Greater Accra region(s) as a means of safeguarding the educational lives.

The education of these brilliant, but needy students would have discontinued if they were not chosen to benefit a scholarship package from the GEIG.

Most of these girls from less endowed backgrounds encounter difficulty in their studies because they sometimes have to either depend on friends or engage in street hawking businesses to cater for their needs.

Some of the beneficiaries recount sterling stories of the financial challenges they go through in their educational lives.

According to the beneficiaries the hurdles they go through is now a thing of the past because of the intervention of the GEIG.

The GEIG since its formation in 2013 has enrolled 13 girls into its pioneer class with three (3) of the students from the Greater Accra and seven (7) from the Ashanti Region.

The organization is taking care of the education girls beginning from the Junior High School to the Tertiary Level.
The Executive Director of the GEIG, Mrs Elizabeth Akua-Nyarko Patterson has pledged to do more to assist the education of girls with special needs in the country.

The organization is also making strides to extend the assistance nationwide.

Mrs. Akua-Nyarko Patterson who has also been nominated to participate in this year’s Vlisco Women’s Month program is also entreating the beneficiaries to see the platform given to them and give out their best.

“I always tell them that they are the first batch and they need to realize that they have a big platform because if another girl from Ghana feels they want to be a GEIG student, they will be the used as the best example,” she stressed.

She added that the organization expects any of the selected girls to see themselves as role models in the communities they are coming from.
