FACT CHECK: Figures on KNUST Rape Cases Inaccurate and Should be Disregarded

Following earlier interview Focus FM had with the KNUST SRC Safety and Security Coordinator, Faithful Adubofuor who mentioned that the university had recorded high number of rape cases between 2017 and 2018 is unequivocally inaccurate.

Focus News checks on the purported rape cases as published by other media houses and platforms are calculated attempts to tarnish the good image of the university by some unscrupulous elements within.

Further checks by Focus News on the alleged figures reveals that between 2016 and 2018, rape cases on campus have declined considerably due to enhanced security measures management of the university have put in place.

According to the office of the Dean of Students, 21 confirmed cases between 2016 and 2018 have been investigated and appropriate sanctions has been meted to perpetrators.

Management has assured all students and staff of the university of adequate 24hr security protection.

KNUST Management Ensures Maximum Security On Campus.

Within the last quarter of last year 2018, KNUST recorded a whopping 50% crime rate reduction according to Focus FM News’ checks. This achievement is attributed to the effective security strategies and policies that are still currently in place to make campus a safer place to be.

As part of recent efforts by authorities of KNUST to enhance campus life and boost security, several CCTV cameras have been installed around campus.

These cameras have been installed at different convenient and busy points of campus including the “Shuttle Area” and the “Agric Junction” traffic light including every porter’s lodge fitted with a television screen to monitor all activities in the halls.
