Expanded Electoral College for Parliamentary Primaries!!

…The HIV of NDC Parliamentary Seats!!!

Kwame Atuah Patrick writes:

We have lost the majority in Parliament in the just ended elections with a difference of about 70 seats, something that most Ghanaians still don’t understand.

I have also been cogitating into it and have come to realize that our new system that we adopted to elect our parliamentary and presidential candidates respectively, was the main reason for this massive loss of our seats to our major political opponent; the NPP.

The new system that was supposed to make the elections free and fair rather has worsened the situation for us.

The Reality and the hard Truth:

In most of the constituencies across the country, since the new system does not define the specific people eligible to vote, candidates were able to cheat the system by adding people who are not party members to the list for their personal interest.

In the compilation of the list candidates were seen pushing in people most of who were for their own interest not for the future of the party, it was also alleged by most candidates especially in Ashanti region here that some of the candidates were able to add some people to the list by their own dubious means.

Some as much as 4,000 people to the list, again some top party officials were also considering their favourites by taking list from them and adding it to the original system, with the aim of helping their friends in the party but was killing the NDC rather.

At Nhyiaeso where I voted, I saw some known NPP members at the polling station coming to vote. I had the shock of my life when they mentioned their names and it was in the register.

Some constituency secretaries in the compilation of the delegates list registered people they  know for sure are not party members but just for them to appear and vote for their favourite candidates.

Again, some ward coordinators also engaged in this act too.

Fellow Akatamansonias let’s stop blaming one another for our defeat for all of us might have contributed directly or indirectly to the outcome.

In the end, they came in and elected wrong people for us and turned around to vote against them in the main elections and that is why we find ourselves in this mess.

Moreover, some minor factors like “Bad interpersonal relationships”, not frequently going to their constituencies also played some role, the fact is that these challenges have been there from time immemorial, but the major reason this time around is what I have stated above.

Mr. President, Most of our party executives and members are aware of what I am saying now because they are the ones that did that, but at this point I will be very grateful if they can say the truth (for God sake!!) and allow us to go back to the “Delegate System” for if we repeat this in 2020 we will loose almost all our seats to the NPP.

Some advantages of the delegate system are:

The voters are defined such that hardly will some one add a fake name to the original list.

Difficult for your opponents to influence or penetrate as they have just done to us.

My humble appeal to our party leadership is that let’s go back to the “Delegate System” now!!!! and we will get the best persons to represent us to recapture our seats.

Thank you.
