Farmers in the region have been advised to take the necessary precaution when applying pesticides and other agro chemicals on their farms.
Wrong application of pesticides is said to be a major cause of food poisoning which sometimes leads to death, cancer and impotence in men.
Speaking to rawgist.com after a seminar to train journalists in the Ashanti Region in pesticides control management, the Regional Director of the Environmental Protection Agency, Isaac Osei said the media plays a major role in efforts to educate farmers on the use of Agro chemicals.
He believes the seminar would give journalists the required knowledge to educate farmers and the general public on the repercussion of wrong application of Agro chemical.
Mr. Osei also called for attitudinal change to protect the environment from further degradation.
