Electronic Voting System Introduced In Ghana

votingSplash Technology, an ICT Software Development group, has launched an automatic electronic voting system dubbed eVoteMinder with suite of hardware and software in Ghana.

The eVoteMinder, comes with a full complement of technical and user support personel and is available for lease to organizations such as churches, schools, companies, and social clubs that seek to conduct elections in a transparent, fast and cost-effective manner.

Nii Adjei Adjetey, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Splash Technology, told the Ghana News Agency in an interview on Wednesday that, the system is easy-to-use and has features that are able to withstand the unique climatic conditions in Ghana and Africa.

He said the eVoteMinder is very intuitive and has graphical system where voters could thumbprint their choices, just like they would do in any conventional election process.

According to him, operating the machine requires no special computer skills or training as voters only need to thumbprint beside the photos or symbols of candidates of their choice on the eVoteMinder’s specialized equipment, just as it is done on ballots papers.

Nii Adjetey said voters are given a thorough orientation and hands-on demonstration on how to vote via the system, and that, the process is much faster and more cost-effective than the manual voting.

“There is no need to print and count ballot papers.

The system is secure and free from manipulation and the voting process is much faster than manual voting,” he added.

The CEO of Splash Technology noted that voting results from the eVoteMinder are collated instantly at the close of polls.

“Results are verifiable as virtual ballot papers are stored electronically for easy retrieval, printing and manual collation in the unlikely case of a dispute.”

The eVoteMinder is cost-saving because the system does not require expensive printing of ballot papers and procurement of special equipment and materials, he said.

The ICT group provides Software Development, Websites and Text Messaging services to corporate bodies like KPMG, The Bible Society of Ghana and Elton Oil of The Gambia.
