ECG staff take bribes from residents of Ahwiaa

ecgThe Rapid Response Team of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has been accused of taking monies as bribe from bill defaulters.

The Electricity Company of Ghana has launched Operation “collect all billed revenue” in order to retrieve debts.

The team had gone out do their job last Tuesday.

rawgist.com has learnt the taskforce designated to Ahwiaa near Kumasi in the Kwabre East District of Ashanti Region received monies from individual households and entities with outstanding bills.

Residents were unhappy at the trend which forced them to pay monies outside their existing debt so as to “buy time and enjoy power for a while longer”.

This reporter also uncovered several unauthorized installed meters fetching monies into individual pockets of ECG staff.

The company is under fiancial constraint to supply power to the people.

According to Public Relations Manager, Erasmus Baidoo, sixty percent of the people in the region owe the company.
