Comment: The things that draw us apart

child-soldierI had a patient from Nkonya the other day and tried to get first hand information as to why they were at war with Alavanyo. My question seemed to have recharged his dry cell, he went on and on sensationally about how one piece of land was supposedly given to their ancestors, a land Alavanyo was now forcefully claiming. He asserted that he was ready to defend that land with his blood since it was their rightful property.

Getting to the end of my interview I nonchalantly asked where the piece of precious land was located and you can’t believe his answer:..”I am told its somewhere between our border with Alavanyo but I dont where exactly it is”…

I was disgusted!!…This man was ready to kill and be killed over a piece of land whose location he didnt even know…it tells me that the things that draw us apart are not tangible but nonsensical pieces of ideology to which we hold on dearly, ideolgies that do not bode well for integration and peaceful coexistence, it’s time we changed our mindset, it’s time we begin to think for ourselves, its time we take decisions because we know it is right…not because that is what every other person believes!.
