Clottey to fight ‘Canelo’ Alvarez next month

Clottey to fight ‘Canelo’Information gathered by sportscrusader.com has it that Ghana’s Welterweight boxer, Joshua ‘The Hitter’ Clottey, will be engaged in a bout with Mexican, Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez on a yet to be decided date in October.

Alvarez, 24, is far younger and fresher than Clottey, who will be 37 next month, and he will have a major urge in this bout. Since his majority decision defeat to Floyd Mayweather in September 2013, Canelo has fared well, winning his subsequent two fights against Alfredo Angulo (TKO) and Erislandy Lara (split decision).

The most recent encounter with Lara didn’t come easy. Alvarez showed improved technical prowess, after being picked apart by Mayweather, refusing to let Lara get away.

Clottey is more experienced in years and has battled the likes of Manny Pacquiao and Miguel Cotto. Even with those losses on his resume, “The Grand Master” still boasts a 38-4 record with one no-contest.

Joshua has won his last three bouts against Calvin Green, by technical knockout, Dashon Johnson, unanimous decision and Anthony Mundine also by unanimous decision.

Losing this one would be a significant setback for Alvarez, who’s still aiming at positioning himself as the next truly big pay-per-view draw. To come out flat in this matchup would be detrimental to that cause, so he would like to impose himself, his brand and future in the ring with a dominant performance.

Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez, so far, has recorded 46 bouts, 44 wins, I draw and 1 loss while Joshua ‘The Hitter’ Clottey has recorded 42 bouts, 38 wins, 4 losses and 1 no contest.

Canelo has a 31 Knock Out record as against Joshua’s 22.
