The newly appointed Chinese Ambassador to Ghana Sun Baohong has pledged her commitment to support anti galamsey efforts in the country.
The ambassador said this when she paid a courtesy call on the Otumfuo at his royal palace. The region has lately had a tough time repatriating Chinese residents engaged in illegal mining in the region.
Their activities have caused massive irreparable damage to land, vegetation and water bodies. Admitting the challenge, Sun Baohong indicated that the nation needed to adopt a holistic approach in dealing with the menace. She indicated that discussions are already underway to stop a further engagement of Chinese in such illegal ventures.
On his part, the Otumfuo Osei Tutu II called for more collaboration between Ghana and China. He indicated that both countries had mutual gains to make in the fields of advanced technology, trade and industry. Otumfuo also requested for an arts theater for the Ashanti region similar to the one built by China in the capital, Accra.
