Chieftancy disputes: One dead & several seriously injured as people of Bomaa attempt to distool their chief

chiefAt least one person is feared dead and several critically injured as the Bomaa township in the Brong Ahafo Region angrily call for the removal of their Chief, Nana Kwaffo Akoto I.

Residents of the town have consistently leveled several allegations against the chief. They say he has embezzled and misappropriated funds, and also refused to initiate development projects in the town.

Some residents in the area disclosed to rawgist.com’s Edward Oppong Marfo on grounds of anonymity that due to the persistent calls by the people to remove the chief from his position, the chief rarely stays in the town.

According to the eye witnesses, the chief decided to travel to his town, Bomaa on Tuesday in the company of guards from a nearby town which attracted stiff opposition from some aggrieved members of the town.

Eye witnesses say the guards who accompanied the chief fired a “warning shot” as they were about to enter the palace. The residents of Bomaa made an attempt to prevent the guards from entering since they suspected that the guards might take some precious ornaments from the palace.

The situation escalated into a fight between the guards who were recruited from neighbouring Bechem and the angry residents of Bomaa.

The chief was forced to flee the area as the situation got more serious.

The police eventually restored calm as some people were taken to the police custody.
