A gang of about 20 youngsters attacked and vandalized the Banhart Hospital at Kenyase in the Ahafo region after their friend died at the facility.
The 22 year-old Kofi Arko was rushed to that hospital after winning a liquor drinking competition.
“The deceased, Kofi Arko after drinking 5 coca – cola bottles of akpeteshie , collapsed on his way home and was rushed to Banhart hospital in kenyasi for treatment where he eventually died” DSP Teddy Brown , District commander for Asutifi district of the Ghana police service confirmed.
Rawgist.com gathers there was a prize money of GHC100 on the liquor competition.
The business manager of Banhart hospital, Ibrahim Alhassan said the deceased was in critical condition when he was rushed to the facility. “Doctors and nurses stood over him all day trying to save him but he died at midnight” he added.
The manager also stated that a gang of about twenty youngsters rushed to the facility to demand the dead body of their friend but when management of the facility refused, they vandalized the glass doors of the facility, assaulted three staff, took away their cell phones while the rest of the workers took to their heels for cover.
“They later broke into the emergency ward and took away the dead body without even paying for the cost of treatment of GHC 1,000” the business manager said. He said the staff has since been living in fear with some traumatized as “this is the 3rd of such cases on the hospital by youngsters”.
The Police have mounted a search for the perpetrators.
Meanwhile, the corpse has been deposited at the morgue of the St . Elizabeth hospital at Hwediem.
