The Kumasi Sports Authority have hinted opening VVIP seats at the Baba Yara Stadium to public sale.
This critical decision has been arrived at due to lack of funds for the maintenance of the facility. After CAN 2008, there have not been any significant maintenance work which has resulted in deterioration and dilapidation of seats especially the ones at the VVIP area.
According to the spokesperson; Madam Patience, a VVIP seat is being sold for GH₵1000.00 and it is for a period of a year. “Buying a VVIP seat guarantees a person, the opportunity to watch all games including all national team matches” she highlighted.
In an interview with Kumasi-based Nhyira Fm, “we are inviting the public and stakeholders especially, those who are interested to come and buy the seats (VVIP). We were being supported by Latex foam but a change in their management has made things difficult for us because, the new boss is not interested in sports and as such not ready to support us anymore” she noted.
She further added that individuals, groups and organisations are called upon to come and buy the seats so that money will be obtained to fix facilities at the stadium.
It was revealed that there are 155 VVIP seats but not all will be sold due to protocol reasons.
