Asokwa Municipal Assembly inaugurated

The Ministry of Local Government this Thursday conferred municipal status on the former Asokwa Sub-Metro in Kumasi.

Speaking at a colorful ceremony at the Presbyterian Municipal Assembly School premises in Asokwa, Hon Osei Bonsu Amoah, A deputy minister at the Local Government Ministry urged the newly inaugurated assembly to work to become a fully independent one.

According to him, government views the decentralization process as the best pivot which can ensure rapid development within the communities in the country.

The creation of new assemblies, he opined also provides room for employment for the people of the country including the youth who form the large mass of those who are unemployed.

DETAILS:

Providing details on the status of the Asokwa Assembly, Hon Amoah encouraged newly posted personnel from the Local Government Services to adhere to the principles of accountability and transparency in the discharge of their duties.

The Assembly, he noted is a new one and would take six months to completely wean itself from the support it was getting from the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA).

This, he mentioned places an enormous task on both the Asokwa and the KMA to work together to ensure Asokwa it comes to full independence where it can use its own resources to undertake development projects.

He, however, announced that government has given each of the newly created districts some seed capital to commence activities and added that the Local Government Ministry had purchased furniture and computers for all the newly inaugurated assemblies to function.

MP:

An elated Member of Parliament for Asokwa, Madam Patricia Appiagyei commended the President for the bold and forward- looking initiative he has undertaken.

According to her, apart from the jobs the creation of districts affords to the unemployed the decentralization process will hasten the pace of development across the regions of the country.

CHIEF:

Chairing the event, the Chief of Asokwa, Nana Fe-Baamoah lauded the efforts of the government to ensuring it opens up the country with development-centered initiatives.

He, on behalf of the Asantehene, urged the people to support government to fully implement all policies it has promised the populace.

DIGNITARIES:
Present at the event were Chairman and constituency executives of the Asokwa NPP branch as well as the elected assembly members and government appointees.
