Asokwa Municipal Assembly celebrates senior citizens

Ghana News-The Asokwa Municipal Assembly last Monday in collaboration with the Member of Parliament, Madam Patricia Appiagyei celebrated senior citizens in the constituency.

Dining and wining with them during the senior citizens day which falls every 1st of July at the Asokwa Youth Center, the staff and members of the Assembly as well as the MP took turns to praise the efforts of the aged.

Recalling the various wise counsels she had received from the senior citizens, Madam Patricia Appiagyei commended the chiefs and elderly in Asokwa for guiding her through her tenure as MP.

She promised to continue her routine consultation sessions with them so as to ensure together with them they build a prosperous and vibrant constituency.

‘’It is always interesting to see, talk as well as dine with you since you have been the very people who carved out this community with your sweat, sacrifice and hard work’’, Madam Appiagyei applauded.

The MP, who doubles as the Deputy Minister for Science, Technology and Innovation took the opportunity to officially announce the elevation of the Asokwa community to a municipal status to the aged.

She maintained the elevation comes with responsibilities, discipline and hard work from all in the community.

The Asokwa community, she mentioned is now required to set its own pattern of development as well as vision.

This, she noted calls for the support from all residents including senior citizens who possesses wisdom to guide the staff and members of the Asokwa Assembly.

‘’By God’s grace we have been elevated to a municipal status and therefore we will require from you good counsel since our elevation comes with discipline, responsibility and hard work’’, Madam Appiagyei reiterated.

Speaking to this reporter, Mr Elliot Fosu Barnor expressed delight at the opportunity to sit at table with senior citizens and chiefs of Asokwa.

The occasion, he noted will spur the staff on to work to put the municipality in a better shape than its current state.

He promised to seek counsel from the chiefs and elders to ensure everyone feels part of the area’s development.

‘’I am encouraged seeing such brilliant minds here and I have no doubt that as the Assembly taps from their wealth of wisdom we will succeed and become the best municipality in Ghana very soon’’, Mr Barnor stressed with passion.
