“Ashanti sachet water producers unable to raise prices due to saturation on market”-Producers

pure-waterSachet water producers in Kumasi have attributed their inability to effectively raise the cost of their product to over saturation of sachet water on the market.

President of the Sachet and Packaged water Producers Association, Frederick Effah Baafi tells rawgist.com there are many new producers who refuse to join the association but are rather more interested in getting a segment of the market by any means necessary.

Sachet water producers in the Ashanti region and other parts of the country announced new prices for their products but could not walk the talk as the prices have remained the same.

Though the price was raised in some parts including the Brong Ahafo, producers in the  Ashanti region could not raise their prices. Ashanti regional President of the Sachet and Packaged Water Producers’ Association says there are too many producers registering weekly. He says the desire of new entrants to win a segment of the market makes it difficult for existing producers to raise prices.

He however says the Association is working feverishly to ensure a united front so that any future announcements will be effective.

Meanwhile, a bag of sachet water in the Brong Ahafo Region has been reduced from GHC 3 to GHC 2. This is as a result of disparities in the price of sachet water which caused misunderstandings between retailers and consumers in the Techiman and Sunyani Municipalities.

There was public outrage over the 100 percent increment in the price of a bag of sachet water in the region a month ago.
