Ashanti regional Minister vrs noisy church: Yammin wades in

Former Deputy Ashanti regional minister Joseph Yammin is accusing the Ashanti regional minister of abusing his powers.

This accusation follows a recent interruption of a church watchnight service by the minister on the grounds of noise making.

The minister brought in Policemen who hauled the Pastor away and also seized the sound systems of the church.

The Minister’s action has been in the news and generated some debate in the Ashanti region.

Joseph Yammin however is shocked at the action of the regional minister and accuse him of abusing his powers.

He listed a litany of examples of instances to buttress his accusation of abuse of power. “I did not know he could go that far after ordered some NPP guys; probably the invincible forces to forcibly open shops the Ghana Revenue Authority had closed for non-payment of taxes. The regional Minister then accused the GRA of sabotage”.

“The regional minister again used his powers to stop Exton cubic company from exploring bauxite in Nyinahin causing some scuffle between the lands and forestry ministry, the forestry commission and the Ashanti regional coordinating council. Again the Ashanti regional minister had some scuffle with the Deputy Minister for roads and the MP for Ejisu”, Yammin recounted.

Yammin tells rawgist.com’s Bernard Buachi that in the face of all the examples of “abuse of power” cited above, entering a church to interrupt the service is unpardonable. He says “the NPP took advantage of churches to win power and now it has become a nuisance to them. In any case, does the regional minister live in his private residence? If he does, is he saying today, he is suddenly above noise making that he has to stampede the church that he has lived with all these while? What kind of arrogance are we talking about?”

Churches now a nuisance to NPP?

Joseph Yammin says the NPP has fooled the churches by riding on their backs to win power and then turning around to treat them as a nuisance. “So it has gotten to this stage when the NPP is not only seeking to tax churches but also stop them from worshiping their God because they are in power today.  You see the monsters you have put in as a government, well, you supported them and this is how they pay you back”, he said.

  1. I believe the pressing issue here is that laws are being broken by noisemakers of all ilk and those in authority who are charged with enforcing laws are not fulfilling their duties. As a direct, immoral and probably illegal consequence of their dereliction of duty the public is being harmed.
