Asante Akyem NPP in turmoil ahead of Nana Addo’s visit

Owusu-BempahNPP Constituents in the Asante Akyem North Constituency say NPP Flag bearer Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo  may not visit the  Constituency today as scheduled due to security issues surrounding his visit.

Members of the the largest opposition party in the constituency are threatening a demonstration to coincide with the Nana Addo’s visit to the constituency Sunday. The demonstration is to register their displeasure with the NPP Parliamentary Candidate for the Constituency; Andy Appiah Kubi. They have threatened to vote for the NDP’s Owusu Bempah if nothing is done to change the party’s PC. They oppose the candidature of the NPP’s candidate due to what they describe as his violent nature. “During their primaries, he sent macho men to beat supporters of his main contender; Hon. Kwadwo Baah Agyeman, who is brother of the late Hon. Kwadwo Baah Wiredu.” They also recounted how he sent macho men to beat up party members he perceives to be “die-hard” supporters of the incumbent MP on the 5th of March this year. They say his violent demeanor will not augur well for the image of the party and the peace of the area.

Owusu Bempah, who is contesting the parliamentary seat on the ticket of the National Democratic Party (NDP) has used Nana Akufo Addo’s picture along his and is poised to pull a significant number of NPP votes.

Already, rawgist.com’s sources within the constituency reveal that acid has been sprinkled on the PC’s bill board. Also a new party office within the constituency which Nana Addo is expected to commission on his visit has been soiled with human excreta.

The party has mobilized members to help clean the place ahead of the expected visit of the party’s flagbearer.

Fingers are being pointed in various directions. While some members of the party suspect an act of sabotage from the NDC side, a good number also believe the situation is purely an NPP inside job expected to highlight deep cracks in the party’s front within that constituency.

Members of the party say their executives are constantly at each others’ throats at the least provocation and lack unity.

Meanwhile, NDC Parliamentary Candidate for the area; Hon. Mary Ewusi seem poised to give the NPP a run for their money as far as the seat is concerned. The Asante Akyem North seat is one of the seats earmarked(by the NDC) to fall to the ruling NDC in this year’s general elections.
