Appoint an Ahafo man to head Forestry Commission-Group appeals to President Akufo-Addo

APPOINT AN AHAFO MAN TO HEAD FORESTRY COMMISSION—–GROUP APPEALS TO PREZ AKUFO-ADDO.

A group of timber dealers and merchants in the Ahafo Region has called on the President to appoint someone within the region to head the Forestry commission.

According to the group, since the region contains most of the forest cover of the country it would be ideal to have someone from same place to head the Forestry commission.

Speaking to Oheneba Asiedu, award winning political anchor at Wontumi Radio and TV Network, Mr Yaw Fosu, leader of the group said an Indigene from Ahafo can best steer the affairs of the commission.

He noted that just as Joseph Boahen Aidoo has been able to handle the affairs of Cocobod since he was once a worker in the field it will also be a good idea to have someone who has knowledge in forest regions to man the Forestry commission.

SUPPORT:
Mr  Fosu also known by his close associates as Kabilla said the Commission would attract the support from timber workers and merchants when they see that their own is head or deputy head of the Commission.

He stressed that the dealers of wood would be at home when they realise that the person heading the commission has every experience of their workings.

This, he noted would also make it easy for dealers and merchants to comply with regulations regarding their operations.

Mr Fosu said once people see their leaders as part of them they are willing to offer sacrifices and to offer support to enable the leaders to succeed.

CORROBORATION:
Speaking on the show later, Ishaq Kyei Brobbey, lecturer at the Kumasi Technical University said it would be fitting to have someone who knows the workings of the Forestry commission as Chief executive officer.

This, he noted would also give the person a fair idea of how to deal with the players on the field.

The lecturer said the people in the field are quite numerous and a leader who has had experience in dealing with these timber workers and merchants would be an ideal consideration.

He urged the President to consult widely to arrive at a person the group and other wood dealers would welcome and be ready to work with.
