Ankaful Prisons: Correction officer busted for smuggling weed to inmates

A Prison Officer has been caught attempting to smuggle marijuana into the Maximum Security Prison at Ankaful. The incident occurred Sunday evening.

The accused, whose name has been withheld for security reasons, was caught with the drug concealed in a mosquito repellent container into the correction facility after a search.

Central Regional Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Prisons Service, DSP Daniel Mechator who confirmed the incident to ghanagong.com says the officer has since been detained for questioning.

DSP Mechator added that the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service is also expected to lay charges.

The Ghana Prisons Service, according to the PRO, is taking all necessary steps to cleanse itself of “such recalcitrant officers to at least have a near-perfect” security system at the Ankaful Main Camp Prison and the Maximum Security Prison.
