ANAQ/BCI screen fathers for free in Kumasi

Ghana News-Scores of fathers and potential fathers were last Sunday medically screened for ailments associated with the male folk.

The exercise, an initiative by the Ama Nyarko Ataffuah Quainoo Foundation (ANAQ) and Breast Care International (BCI) was to honor men for the roles they play and continue to play in the family system.

Speaking to the Ghanaian Observer Newspaper, Madam Ama Nyarko Ataffuah expressed delight at the opportunity to give back to fathers across the Ashanti Region.

Being the second time she was doing this for fathers in the city on father’s day, Madam Quainoo said she was encouraged by the enthusiasm the fathers had shown in accessing the opportunity to test to know their health statuses.

‘’As a health-focused NGO we decided to show appreciation to our fathers on such a day like this and just as we did it for them last year we are even encouraged to do more for these gallant men who helped to give us comfort and stability in the home’’, Madam Ama posited.

CANCER SURGEON:

Admonishing the fathers during an open forum, Dr Beatrice Wiafe Addai, a renowned cancer surgeon urged men to attend to their health with seriousness.

According to her, periodic checks at the hospital are most ideal since that helps to reduce the incidence of sicknesses catching them unawares.

She stressed the importance of knowing one’s sugar as well as blood pressure levels at all times.

This, she noted helps to prevent diseases such as diabetes, high blood pressure and other related sicknesses.

‘’I urge you as proud fathers and men to attend to your health with diligence and just as you are passionate in going to work to help us feed the children at home kindly ensure your health is in the best of conditions at all times’’, Dr Wiafe Addai noted passionately.

SPECIALIST:

Dr Samuel Amanama, a specialist doctor and surgeon advised men to start checking their prostrate state early in life.

This, he noted will enable them to get early treatment rather than waiting to be grounded by full blown cases.

BENEFICIARIES:

Mr Charles Ahenkorah, a middle-aged man from Kwabre East District commended the organizers for the screening exercise.

The exercise, Owura Amoateng Afrifa, a native of Bekwai also noted had enabled them to test for malaria, blood pressure and diabetes.
