All Africa Music Awards(AFRIMA) Extends Call For Entries

All-Africa-Music-Awards_optThe All Africa Music Awards, AFRIMA, in partnership with African Union Commission, has extended the call for entries for the 2014 edition by two weeks, from July 5 to July 19, 2014.

Submission of entries for the continental award project aimed at showcasing the culture of Africa and rewarding the music talents, had opened on May 15, 2014 and closed on July 5, 2014.

Going by the enthusiastic response of African music professionals and journalists who have flooded the AFRIMA website with entries from across the continent and from Africans in the Diaspora, the International Committee of AFRIMA was under pressure from the African music and media industry to extend the closing date to accommodate the late entrants who are eager to be part of the award process but are constrained by limited internet access in their various cities.

Entries will close on Saturday, July 19 at 12.00 a.m. UTC (Universal Time Coordinated). The entry guidelines remain as before on AFRIMA website: www.afrima.org. Format of submission: Only musical or journalistic works released or published in the year under review- May 31, 2013 to July 18, 2014 are eligible for submission.

Entries should be done by completing the registration form on AFRIMA website and other AFRIMA social media platforms namely Twitter: @AFRIMAWARDS and Facebook: www.facebook.com/AFRIMA2014.

A French version of the entry form is available on AFRIMA’s Facebook page. A URL link of the uploaded work on YouTube ONLY must be included in the space provide on the entry registration form. For hard copy entries, download the registration form and the completed copy alongside two copies of the entry must be sent to the nearest physical address provided on the AFRIMA website. Qualified entries will be selected by the Academy of AFRIMA which consists of the Jury and College of Voters.

Explaining further, AFRIMA Director of Brand Communications and Sponsorship, Ms. Matlou Tsotetsi said:“First, I must say we are impressed by the level of participation by Africa, on the continent and in the Diaspora, in the entry submission process. This is an encouraging success marker for us considering the fact that we surpassed the 1000 mark. We are receiving entries from African music professionals and journalists in countries like Finland, Germany, and other interesting locations.

“Secondly, some regions of Africa have appealed to us for this extension and we are obligated to accede to them in the spirit of our FACE IT value of Fairness, Accountability, Creativity, Excellence, Integrity and Transparency. There can be no fair play or competition if there is no equal representation. We hope this 14 days will give everyone a chance to get involved in AFRIMA”.

In partnership with the African Union Commission and Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment in Nigeria, the 2014 All Africa Music Awards will produce a star-studded, world-class event in Nigeria on October 21 to 25, 2014, with live performances and television broadcast to 84 countries on 109 television stations around the world.

The AFRIMA programme includes: AFRIMA Village, Media Workshop and the Africa Music Summit -A platform for the music industry members to engage and deliberate on how the industry can be nurtured and packaged in a way that contributes to the GDP of the continent under the theme “Reviving the Business of Music in Africa”.
