Alan camp flattens Akufo-Addo popularity hype

ohene ntowFormer General-Secretary of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the spokesperson for Alan Kyerematen, Nana Ohene Ntow, has dismissed the notion that Nana Akufo-Addo is more popular than Mr. Kyerematen in the political environment of Ghana.

According to Mr. Ntow “if we say somebody is popular, and Ghanaians like him, then that person should be the President.”

He added that Ghanaians voted for former President John Agyekum Kufuor during the 2000 general election because they loved him, and he was more popular even though he was allegedly cheated.

Speaking on OKAY FM, the former scribe of the party said Mr. Akufo-Addo could be described as the unluckiest candidate among the aspirants because he has lost two general elections and he should be the one to step down for the others.

Mr. Ntow urged NPP members to learn something out of Mr. Akufo-Addo’s loss in the 2008 and 2012 general elections in order to win power in the next election.

“If you send a candidate to an election and he loses, you have to come back and re-strategize for the next election. The party should send a candidate who will win power even if he is cheated just like Kufuor did in the 2000 elections, that is what we need,” he noted.

According to him, some senior members of the party are playing “childish” politics, which he believed would not help the party to win power.

He mentioned that winning the party’s primary should not be the main focus of the aspirants, but they should aim at how to save Ghanaians from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration.

“Everyone can win at the primaries, but what use will it be if you lose the general election,” he stated.

He was of the view that if the energy used in campaigning and doing propaganda during the primaries could be directed towards the general elections, then they would reclaim power from the NDC in the 2016 election.
