Ghana Youth Action Panel: AIESEC/YALN collaborate on youth development

The Ghanaian youth will have a voice to contribute to issues of worldwide concern as over 200 young Ghanaians meet to discuss the role of the youth in the attainment of the SDGs.

The Ghana Youth Action Panel will include several youth drawn from youth organizations across Ghana to put in place actionable roadmaps to involve the youth in the quest to ensure a better future through the realization of the SDGs.

The conversation of the day will be hinged on theme of “Good Job and economic growth—the role of youth in the coming years” and will delve into the subject of quality education as a key factor within the theme in view.

The event which takes off on the 16th of December, 2016 at the British Council in Accra is an AIESEC programme with support from the ministry of Youth and Sports and the UNDP and sponsored by Ghana Home Loans. The programme is also receiving strategic support from the community partners of AIESEC such as Young African Leadership Network Ghana (YALN).

The Ghana Youth Action Panel is one of the several events and activities under the Ghana Youth Speak campaign, a campaign that aims to raise awareness and encourage youth participation in the attainment of the SDGs in Ghana and the world at large.

On a global level, AIESEC and YALN; two formidable youth-run organizations, last year entered a pact with the United Nations towards mobilizing young people around the world to take active roles in the achievement of the SDGs.

Already, surveys have been carried out to gain insight into youth opinions and aspirations whiles community projects have been created to tackle specific SDGs. Several other opportunities for global youth engagements on sustainable future continue to be sought.

The key question that will be answered with actionable perspectives is “How can young people be better engaged” and “what role can young people play.” During the Ghana Youth Action Panel, we seek to unlock the potentials of youth engagement, participation and collaboration in making the world a better place.

Meanwhile, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs),  is a set of seventeen aspirational “Global Goals” with 169 targets between them spearheaded by the United Nations. The SDGs are also officially known as Transforming our world: the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development
