The Ashanti Regional Police Command has arrested a 41 years old woman for attempting to murder her business partner.
DCOP Ken Yeboah, Ashanti regional Police Commander in a press briefing, explained that, the suspect Joyce Antwi, is a resident of Buokrom Estates in Kumasi.
He explained that the suspect and the victim are business partners who trade in plywood at Akwatia line in Kumasi and that in the month of October 2015, suspect Joyce Antwi collected an amount of Ninety-Nine Thousand Ghana Cedis (GHC99,000.00) from the victim in order to expand her business and promised to refund the money.
He narrated further that, the victim approached the suspect in April 2017, to inform her that she will need her money in June 2017 to invest in her own business since life was becoming difficult for her. The suspect agreed to pay back the money in due course, a response that was accepted by the victim.
The Police Chief indicated that, on Tuesday, 23rd May 2017, suspect Joyce Antwi approached the complainant and contracted him to murder the victim for a fee of Five Thousand Ghana Cedis (GH5,000.00). The complainant agreed to the offer and was given Two Thousand Ghana Cedis as part payment from the suspect and promised that the balance will be paid when the job is executed.
Joyce Antwi, then asked the complainant to execute the job in the afternoon, since the victim’s husband and the children will be out of the house.
He said on Friday 26th May 2017, suspect Joyce Antwi picked the complainant to the residence of the victim at Buokrom Estate to show him the house of the victim.
The complainant immediately alerted the police about his engagement with the suspect as well as her intention to kill the victim. Armed with the information, the police on Saturday 27th May 2017 went to the victim’s residence and asked her to call the suspect to come to her place. She obliged.
The suspect was arrested by the Police as soon as she showed up two hours later.
The Commander disclosed that, during interrogation, suspect Joyce Antwi confessed having contracted the complainant to murder the victim for a fee of Five Thousand Ghana Cedis (5000.00) of which she had already paid the complainant Two Thousand Five Hundred Ghana Cedis (2,500.00) as part payment.
He said the suspect is in police custody assisting in investigation and onward prosecution.
