Offinso residents commend gov’t on town roads reconstruction

road-constructionResidents in the Offinso Municipality of the Ashanti Region have described as a laudable project the reconstruction of town roads in the area which is currently ongoing.

The roads which have been in a very deplorable state have been a source of worry to the inhabitants.

The dusty nature of the roads could only be described as a nightmare for the residents because it posed dangers to their health.

The roads become muddy in the rainy season making the situation worse as commuters and motorists encounter a lot of difficulty using them.

According to a resident, “we have really benefitted from the rehabilitation of these roads. They used to be in very terrible conditions. They were very dusty, but we thank God they are under-reconstruction.”

Another resident said, “Our roads were very bad. They become worst in the rainy season and we are unable to use them for our daily activities.”

One of the residents who recounted how the dusty nature of the roads affected his health also said “this project is a laudable one”.

Despite several complains by residents over the nature of the roads, less attention has been paid by authorities in the roads sector until the Chief and the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the area made a swift intervention.

The seven (7)-kilometer Offinso municipal town roads which are under the supervision of Reggio Construction Company Limited cost 13 million Ghana cedis.

Project Engineer and Site Manager, Isaac Sam assured that the project would be completed as scheduled.

He added that the project has not suffered any challenge since they began the reconstruction.

Mr Sam added that residents in the area have been cooperative and supportive.

Offinsomanhene, Nana Wiafe Akenten III has reiterated his resolve to work closely with Government through the MCE to bring more development into the area.

His efforts have so far led to the establishment of an ultra-modern court complex in the area and the establishment of a state-of-the-art auditorium block at the Offinso College of Education.y1ufb

Renovation works are also underway to set up a branch office for the Drivers and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA).

According to Nana Akenten III, leadership must come with development and he would ensure people in the area have their share of the national cake in terms of development project.

Offinso Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Haruna Yussif said the project was necessitated because of the positive impact it would have on the community.

Mr Yussif indicated that “Offinso is a typically farming community which needs good roads. As this is happening, like I told you, last week I sighted a letter that is awarding some of my feeder roads. It tells you that the President is not only thinking about the town roads, he is also thinking about the rural roads as well. So is a total development for both the rural and urban folks. This tells you the kind of President we have and his vision.”

He expressed gratitude to the President and also pledged to spearhead development projects that will impact positively on the lives of the people in the area.
